what is unsupported?

Revolution Cycle is an unsupported expedition, this means that we'll have no outside help en-route. No support vehicle to carry our equipment, or provide shelter from the places we pass through or give us a lift if we get tired. If something breaks we have to fix it, if there's a problem we have to solve it, if the terrain is tough going we have to power ourselves through it. Since we have to carry all of our gear we will be travelling light.
As we will be dependent solely on our own steam, our progress will depend largely on our personal resolve. Independence and self-reliance are the essence of an unsupported expedition increasing both the challenge and the rewards.

Adventure Stats, an independent body of geographers, explorers and historians state the following about supported expeditions;
"Support refers to external power aids used for significant speed and load advantage. Typical aids are wind power (kites), animal power (dogs), or engine power (motorized vehicles). Only human powered expeditions are considered unsupported. Usage of human powered equipment such as skis, snowshoes, and sleds are not considered support. Usage of navigation aid such as compass and GPS are not considered support. Usage of safety aids such as radios, satellite phones and location beacons are not considered support."
